Frequently asked questions
Are there extra student discounts for in-state public school students?
Most retailer discounts don't differentiate between in-state and out-of-state students — student-ID-gated programs accept any valid US student ID. Where it does matter is local: regional retailers (a local bookstore, a state-park system, an in-state transit pass) often have in-state-only discounts that out-of-state students can't use even if they attend the same school.
What's the difference between a public college and a state university?
A "state university" is one type of public college — typically a four-year, often research-oriented institution operated by the state government. "Public college" is the broader category that also includes community colleges, regional state universities, and specialized public institutions (military academies, public liberal arts colleges, etc.). For deal purposes the distinction usually doesn't matter — student-ID-gated programs accept any of them.
